Philip Church (He/Him)

I am a gay, cisgender man who has lived in Phoenix for more years than I care to recall. When I think of therapy I think back to the most influential therapist I had during my own therapeutic journey. She once told me, “I spent 10 years in therapy healing myself, and I thought now I need to go out into the world and help heal others.” This has become my motto as I believe we are all teachers and helpers to each other.

My foundational tools are mindfulness/meditation, self-care and working towards increasing both awareness and understanding of our emotional selves to achieve a more balanced and healthy whole self. Therapy is the place where you get to figure out who you are in a non-judgmental and affirming environment. And it is also one of the few places in your life where you, and you alone, will get to decide if, when, how or not you want to make changes in your life.

I specialize in individual and couples therapy with an emphasis on understanding our families of origin. I am experienced in the modalities of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Cognitive Processing Therapy. My short-term goal is to become more experienced in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy as I believe much of our struggles in our lives are born out of our trauma histories. I have worked with many different populations experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsions, eating disorders, and addictions.

At my emotional core I am a jovial person and love to laugh with my clients whenever we get the opportunity. But in the spirit of balance, I also will be there for you when you need to cry, be angry or when you feel lost. I am blessed to be able to have the opportunity to work with you towards a better future for you!
