Katherine Sorensen (they/she)
Hey there! I'm Katherine, a queer and neurodiverse therapist intern with Affirming You. I am in my last year of my Master of Counseling program at Arizona State University, on the path to becoming a LPC who specializes in working with neurodiverse and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. As a queer person, I understand how life-saving affirmative care can be for both the body and mind, and I strive to create a safe space where you can show up exactly as you are—no judgement, ever.
Using trauma-informed practices, I utilize an eclectic approach to help meet clients where they're at, because I know there is no one-size-fits-all method to healing and safety. Using a person-centered mindset, I draw from a range of evidence-based modalities while utilizing Narrative and Somatic techniques to support safety in the body and empowerment of the mind.
As a life-long reader with a background in literature, I understand the power our stories hold. Honoring diverse perspectives and cultural backgrounds is at the core of my practice, understanding that we all have something to gain and learn from one another. I value the role our personal narratives play in our everyday lives, and believe that people are complex, evolving beings—not something to pathologize or 'fix'. Your voice matters, it is special, and together we can help it grow.
In my spare time, you can find me wandering the local art museum, smashing a burrito, or snuggling on the couch with my partner and our 3 cats. I am a Phoenix-native, with family roots in the NYC/Philly areas, making me unique lover of both bustling cities and wide-open spaces. Siri, play Wide Open Spaces by The Chicks
Using humor, compassion, and an ever-curious mindset, together we can explore all of the wonderful, scary, and unique things that make you, you. I can't wait to get started!
