Kieren Alvord, (he/they)
Howdy! My name is Kieren (he/they), and I am currently an intern level therapist working towards graduation and licensure.
My approach is rooted in relational cultural therapy and feminist theories. I am deeply curious about your experiences within the context of the environments and relationships that you have engaged with throughout your life. Sometimes we carry relational narratives or expectations that no longer serve us or have never felt authentic. Sometimes these narratives keep us from experiencing or enjoying the present moment. I draw from ACT, DBT, and parts work to provide a framework for what healing and growth looks like for each unique client.
Coming from a trauma-informed lens, I have experience working with queer youth and additional training in child centered play therapy. I love incorporating humor and play with clients of any age.
Alongside providing therapy with Affirming You, I work on the Camp OUTdoors! team at one·n·ten helping make the outdoors feel more accessible to queer young folks. Out of the office, I enjoy spending time outdoors, hiking, paddling, and soaking up the near daily perfect sunsets in the valley.
I offer in person and telehealth services for children, adults, and couples. I enjoy working with queer, trans, and neurodivergent clients (including those with OCD, C-PTSD, and all of the other complexities that can fall under that label). I bring curiosity, dry humor, and autistic pattern recognition. If you’re looking for a therapist who can pair hard hitting questions with the space to gently process your answer, let’s connect!
